The Local Halifax, Nova Scotia Area

There's plenty to do, see, and learn in Halifax, Nova Scotia.

Here's a short breakdown from Wikipedia:

The City of Halifax was an incorporated city in Nova Scotia, Canada. On April 1, 1996, the government of Nova Scotia dissolved the City of Halifax, and amalgamated the four municipalities within Halifax County and formed Halifax Regional Municipality, a single-tier regional government covering that whole area. (There are no longer any cities in Nova Scotia.) The city was the capital of Nova Scotia and shire town of Halifax County. It was also the largest city in Atlantic Canada.

The Town of Halifax was founded by British government under the direction of the Board of Trade and Plantations under the command of Governor Edward Cornwallis in 1749. The British founding of Halifax initiated Father Le Loutre's War. During the war, Mi'kmaq and Acadians raided the capital region 13 times.

Halifax was founded below a glacial drumlin that would later be named Citadel Hill. The outpost was named in honour of George Montague-Dunk, 2nd Earl of Halifax, who was the President of the British Board of Trade. Halifax was ideal for a military base, with the vast Halifax Harbour, among the largest natural harbours in the world, which could be well protected with batteries at McNab's Island, the North West Arm, Point Pleasant, George's Island and York Redoubt.

In its early years, Citadel Hill was used as a command and observation post, before changes in artillery that could range out into the harbour. After a protracted struggle between residents and the Governor, the City of Halifax was incorporated in 1841.

Since the creation of HRM in 1996, the area of the former City of Halifax is referred to as an unincorporated "provincial metropolitan area" by the provincial government's place name website and the area is referred to as "Halifax, Nova Scotia" for civic addressing and as a placename.

The area is administered as two separate community planning areas by the regional government for development, Halifax Peninsula and Mainland Halifax. It forms a significant part of the Halifax urban area. Residents of the former city are called "Haligonians".

What Our Clients Say

Travis Neliton - Satisfied customer of Custom Hong Kong Tailor

Travis Neliton

"Ken offers his excellent service right to the door of your business office or home. He did an outstanding job fitting and measuring me, without cutting corners, for wonderful custom made suits I wear daily that were very reasonably priced.

"Most impressive though, is his outstanding follow-up and attention to detail. I would highly recommend Ken when you've decided to take your wardrobe and professional appearance to the next level."

"I had been working for months to find dress attire that would fit me properly, including another tailor I found online that had rave reviews. On the advice of a friend, I went to Ken.

"Ken came to my house, measured me up once, and the clothes fit perfectly the first time - not even a single adjustment needed. He has a wide selection of colors and fabrics at various price points and his attention to detail is impeccable. I'm very happy with my purchases so far and would highly recommend Ken to anyone looking to upgrade their wardrobe."

Chris Winn

"I've been working with Ken for the last five years and believe his company offers the best value on the market today for quality, service and price. I've referred serveral of my friends and associates to Ken and everyone has been equally impressed with the quality of his suits and exceptional service.

"Ken takes the hassle out of buying. No more driving to the mall to try and find a suit. Ken does everything for me. Personally, I hate shopping so when Ken comes to my office it's a big relief. I need to look my best, but don't have the time or know how to do it right. I need to focus my energy on running my business and not waste my time driving all over the planet. Plus, his custom suits, custom shirts and ties are outstanding AND less expensive than what you'd typically pay for an 'off the rack' suit at Nordstrom or Saks.

"I would recommend Ken to anyone who values their time and wants to make a great first impression."
